LidBuddy™ is a decorative and functional shell to mount over lids for your jars.
All our consumables come in containers plastered with logos and you want them hidden to reduce the feeling of clutter and noise in your living space.
Containers with a neutral appearance are expensive, why not upcycle your jars with the practical and stylish LidBuddy™ top?
Every year we throw away a great amount of empty jars, they still work fine but literally look like garbage.
Clean the glass jar and mount a LidBuddy™ over the lid and you have a decorative container to refill with anything you want to keep within reach.
The enlarged surface and deep texture provides a ridiculous amount of extra gripping power. You would need to use glue to prevent anyone from opening the jar with ease. Try not to use excessive force, stripping the threads of your jar lids is now a real possibility.
Most jars with the LidBuddy™ can be opened single handedly, and the extra grip makes this an excellent gift for the elderly or anyone struggling to open or close jars.
Decorative jars are great for storing consumables you use often, buying economic bulk or environmentally friendly packaging and refill your stylish jar that you can keep within reach.
"Meander" is an ancient pattern commonly seen in Greek and Roman culture.
Also known as "Greek lines", "Greek fret" or "Greek key".
Sizing
LidBuddy™ is not limited to a preset set of sizes. Measure the dimensions of the lids you want to upgrade and if the size you need is not listed then choose "New size" and add your measurements in the comments.
The dimensions are the inner surfaces of the LidBuddy™ which should fit snugly over your existing lid.
Our dimensions are the inner diameter and height measured in millimeters.
The diameter is the outermost edges of your lid. Height should be the equivalent to the height/width of your lid or greater. Covering the lid is usually desireable, but depending on the jar it can be greater.
The maximum height can be enlarged to where it interferes with the jar when measured from the top of the existing lid. Leave 2-3mm clearance to avoid problems, glass jars are not always molded exactly the same.
Mounting and Care
Mounting is easy. Clean the jar and lid with soap and water to get any residual grease off. Dry with a paper towel or just let it air dry. Screw the lid back on when its dry.
Check the size to ensure a decent fit and set the jar aside for now.
Add a few drops of glue* on the inside walls of the LidBuddy™ where the lid and cover will interface and the center**. If the fit is not snug, no problem. Just add a bit extra glue to compensate for the gap.
Put the LidBuddy™ down on a flat surface with the open side up, grab the jar and insert it lid down. Rotate or wiggle it a little bit while inserting it to spread the glue a bit. Leave it upside down and let the weight of the jar ensure good contact for the glued surfaces while it dries.
*Almost any glue will do. Very liquid substances may be too thin to get a good grip, use a gel version if possible. Any universal sticky glue is probably fine, acrylic caulk should be plenty strong. "Hot snot" thermoplastic glue guns will probably work too, just keep in mind the short working time before it hardens.
LidBuddy is not designed for dismounting and reuse, but with the right combination of adhesive and amount it is certainly possible.
**Some jar lids have moving parts. Apply glue only to the walls and not too much that it may block the movement of the outer ring and do not apply glue to the center. Only the outer ring should be firmly attached to the LidBuddy™ and the inner component move freely.
